Elizabeth de Bethune

Elizabeth de Bethune is a figurative/representational (sometimes) painter/drawer/printmaking, who frequently works back and forth between media and materials. Much of her work combines collage as well. Although mostly “realistic”, her work plays back and forth between illusion and surface. A recent series involves images of people looking at art, painted upon heavily collaged surfaces. The play between the viewer and painting, and the subject of the painting, who is a viewer of art as well, and the art object depicted in the painting is a fun visual puzzle that is enhanced by the additional juxtapositions of the collage elements.
Her most recent exhibit was “Horizon Lines” at the Harrison Public Library in Harrison New York, in February 2018.
A Yonkers resident, Elizabeth has been a long standing member of the Westchester and Rivertowns Arts community.
