Mary Fennell
As an artist, I’ve always found myself split between two disciplines: photography and mixed media. My photographic images reflect what I see in the world around me. They are my eye looking outward. My mixed media work, on the other hand, is my eye looking inward.
In my photographic work, I look for compositional elements of light, texture and form. After years of shooting film and printing darkroom images, I recently have been developing a body of work using digital technology, most specifically utilizing iPhone, iPad and editing apps.
In my mixed media work, I often employ a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, collage, assemblage and book arts. With the use of textural materials, I try to create images that evolve beyond the surface, with literal and a figurative layering to convey a sense of history and reflect my personal philosophy in the landscape of the human condition.
