Jeff White
Jeff White is a woodcut artist who has facilitated print projects with over 50 artists in the past 5 years under the publisher name Totemic17.
Thematic group projects have included 17tugs, Bridgebuilder & Truthiness. More recently, solo projects by Tuukka Peltonen of Finland & Beth Sutherland of Dobbs Ferry have been shown at major regional art fairs & at local venues such as The Writer’s Center &, presently, Jazz Forum Arts.
All projects are comprised of prints in 17 distinct sizes, providing a place for artists to begin + logistical advantages for exhibitions & collecting.
For his own work, White is currently applying the size format to dominos, stretching & distorting them, layering translucent color on handmade Japanese kozo papers.
I see opportunity in this series to allow the form to remain as inherently absolute as the number of pips on a domino, conveying an inalterable truth & giving space to adjacent imagery & ideas. For me, keeping an image that pure is as challenging as clearing my mind in meditation. Thoughts enter as images & then I come back to the simple form, the subtle grain of the wood laid down in translucent breaths. http://totemic17.com
