Emily Kotchen
Mark-making is, for me, a meditative state. I love manipulating materials—both conventional and unorthodox. No matter whether I am working in paint or pencil, with thread or with found objects, my goal is to create moments of deep feeling—often inspired by the passing of time and my own childhood memories—through an economy of shapes and strokes. Each work is, for me, a fragment of a whole, representing intimate details that are often overlooked in daily routine.
